Artist Statement: Places are movement and stillness. These works fulfill the eye’s need to build on sound and touch. Content comes second. Like in poetry, I want to find the value in the small and the subtle, to slow down and notice. These photographs are not sought after images but find their way into the frame of my camera. My eye bobbles for the feeling, the passion and excitement of knowing how they can look in the future with a little contrast control. These photographs hold humanity and nature together, or in suspension, through shadow, detail, and sharpness. Stories can emerge from simplicity, lines, and texture. Sometimes life is serious, and awareness of your world is demanded. What does visual art do? Are they metaphors? Miracles? Metaphysics? Mere existence positioned in the world? What are the fringes of everything? We must seek to know.
Annelise Freeze is an environmental, visual, and experimental poet, writing through the ASD perspective. She is a master’s student at the University of Colorado Boulder, studying Creative Writing - Poetry and instructing creative writing. She is currently a poetry editor for the undergraduate magazine of CU Boulder: Timber. She received a BA in English (Concentration in Creative Writing) and a Minor in Philosophy at Texas State University. Her photography and poetry have been published by Persona, Half & One, L'Esprit Literary Review, Words Faire, and as a poetry finalist for the Mānoa Journal.
