Odin Meadows

podunk, USA

There’s nothing here. Nothing. Everybody wants

there to be something here, but there never is.

There’s nothing here but trees and these flat, flat

fields and Walmart, and it gets stuck

in your head like a bug. You can get a stick and try

to scratch it, and it helps for a bit, but about once

every season you will wake up with the desperate

need to flee

and there’s nowhere you can walk, or run, or even

really drive,

but you drive

you drive

past fields of corn, fields of corn, fields of corn,

abandoned buildings

and you drive to this guy’s house who’s selling pills,

well one of the guys you know, almost everyone is

dealing these days even if it's just a little

on the side.
